| MESSAGE FROM ROD THOMAS - 30 Aug 10 The reason for this mail is to ask if you could give a little publicity to a bike ride that I am in the middle of at this moment. I am trying to ride 'End to End' from Landsend to John O Groats as part of 'Team Mel' raising money for a cancer charity which is specifically targeting research into the very rare type of cancer that my daughter Melanie has. The whole idea is the brainchild of my son in law Charlie Jaggard. I initially was going to do a few legs with him on the way up , but after a month or so of training and the purchase of a better bike I am trying to go all the way (cycling that is !!!). I started last Monday and have done from Landsend up to Leominster on my own pretty much in slow time. Got absolutely soaked on Wed and Thurs last week crossing Devon and Somerset! The rest of the team started yesterday (Sun) and will be going a bit faster than I did in the hilly bits of the S West. I plan to join Charlie as he passes Leominster and hope to be able to keep up all the way to J O G. I am the only other person trying to complete the whole trip as other members of the team will be joining and leaving as their schedule allows. Anyway while searching the net for a new car a few weeks ago I noticed a familiar shape in the background of a photo of a car in Cornwall. Yes it was a Mk 6 and on further investigation it was one I flew in 1976. As it was only 5 miles off the chosen route I had to make a short but painful detour (it was very hilly and what goes down inevitably has to come up!!) and get my photo taken with the old bird. The owner of the garage ,Roy Flood has kept the aircraft in good condition but the paint scheme is non too authentic as you will see from one of the photos. Anyway I was wondering if you may be able to give us a bit of publicity on the web site and a link through to our bike ride web site which is www.getwellmel.co.uk This links through to the main site and there is also a link to a facebook page which is being updated on our progress. Best wishes Rod Thomas |
