AVM Alan White has written a book about his time in the RAF.   This is due to be on the shelves in June 2009.   He covers the years 1954 to 1987 with warts and all, from arriving on his first (Hunter) squadron with an embarrassing OCU rating in air gunnery of "Below Average", through an interesting time in the Far East on Hunters, a staff job in Aden at the height of the terrorist campaign there, two tours on Lightnings, command of RAF Leuchars, Deputy Commander of RAF Germany and finally as Commandant of the staff college at Bracknell.
He would be delighted to hear from anyone who might be remotely interested in having a copy directly from the publishers at a discount.   And he would be particularly glad to hear from anyone who served with him on 5 Sqn, 11 Sqn and at Leuchars - whether interested in the book or not!   His contact email address is roberts.leithen@btinternet.com
Alan White has written another book, A Sojourn in Cyprus.   This is a post-retirement sequel to his earlier Lightning Up.   It is described as a tale of fun, frustrated ambition, the salvaging of a failing school, murder and love, and a little about Cyprus.   An attempt to set up an aerial target-towing enterprise with Jerry Seavers is also included.  Available in hardback, softback and electronic format.   Cheapest from Amazon.

Jerry Parr reports a good read with a recent Aeroplane ICONS magazine devoted entirely to the Lightning.
